Dude: I work at Eckerd. I cannot refuse to sell cigarettes to someone of legal age and I am 100% antismoking. Therefore, pharmacists need to do their jobs too. If I don’t take birth control, I get sick. I can’t move for about a week and become anemic. I bleed every 2-6 weeks for 9 days. So for a pharmacist to not fill my birth control prescription because they’re Catholic or whatever is just wrong, and should count as cruel and unusual punishment. As a side note: Sometimes the pharmacist won’t give you your script back right away, and if you need the morning after pill (KEEP IN MIND THAT RAPE VICTIMS USE THIS, TOO!!!!!) you need it ASAP. So, until you become a woman, or compassionate, keep your mouth shut.
Missing the point Jen. Drawing parallels between being forced to sell cigarettes to smokers and providing birth control pills to which your faith prevents you from doing is not fair. If you need birth control for any reason you have options. If you are aware that a pharmacist will refuse to supply the medication then you vote with your feet and take your prescription elsewhere, perhaps to a protestant pharmacy. I also think you are being a bit melodramatic about the rape issue. Post coital contraception would be delivered from managed facilities such as acute healthcare providers or crisis centres for such victims – not some Romanist High Street Pharmacy on a religious crusade.
